About
Lumicent is a Decision Intelligence company for physical operations. We help industrial organizations understand where physical risk is emerging, what is exposed and where action can have the greatest impact before failure occurs. The company grew from a simple observation: industrial organizations have become extraordinarily good at managing the consequences of failure, but not equally good at making prevention visible, measurable and actionable before the outcome is decided. That is the problem Lumicent exists to change.
Failure is priced, funded and insured. Prevention still has to prove its worth.
Industrial companies plan financially for failure every day. Insurance premiums, contingency reserves, emergency labor and capital held back for the shutdown everyone hopes will never happen but knows might.
The economics of the physical world are built to absorb consequence. Prevention gets no such standing. It has to fight for budget, defend its ROI and prove its value before a dollar moves, while the cost of failure is already modeled, funded and underwritten.
That contradiction has become so familiar it can feel inevitable. We do not believe it is.
That’s not physics. It’s a choice.
Lumicent was built on a different premise: industrial operations can become more resilient by design, and preventable failure does not have to remain an accepted cost of doing business.
That does not mean eliminating every failure. It means making emerging risk visible earlier, consequence more understandable and preventive action more defensible, so organizations have a better chance to change the outcome while there is still time.
Resilience has to be designed into the operating model.
That requires more than better monitoring. It requires a different way of thinking about prevention, evidence and priority.
- Prevention has to earn the same standing as failure. — The cost of failure is modeled, funded and insured. Prevention should be measurable and financially defensible too, so capital can move toward avoiding loss rather than simply absorbing it afterward.
- Compliance has to become evidence. — Proving that a process was followed is different from proving that exposure is being reduced. Resilience requires continuous evidence, purpose-built intelligence and a clearer understanding of where risk is actually changing.
- Priority has to replace volume. — Knowing something may fail is useful. Knowing what that failure could mean, how it ranks against every other exposure and what deserves action first is where the value begins.
The objective is not to generate more information. It is to create greater decision clarity.
Born from the operating side of the problem.
Co-founder and CEO Andy Pruett spent more than two decades in industrial operations and digital transformation, including serving as Vice President of Technology at a multi-national industrial. Long before Lumicent existed, he was dealing with the operational, financial and organizational consequences of physical asset risk.
Years inside complex industrial environments create a different understanding of failure. Major events are rarely just technical events. They emerge inside systems of constrained maintenance capacity, inspection limitations, capital tradeoffs, operating pressure and information spread across people and technologies.
Andy had seen equipment losses measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars and business interruption on a similar scale. Those experiences reinforced a conviction: “that is simply how industry works” was no longer a sufficient answer.
Lumicent became the company he believed should already have existed.
Our vision
A future where catastrophic industrial failure is no longer accepted as a cost of doing business.
Physical operations will never be risk-free, and technology will never eliminate every failure. The opportunity is to make risk visible earlier, consequence more understandable and preventive action more decisive so fewer organizations learn the most important thing about an asset only after it has failed.
Our mission
Deliver the decision layer for risk in physical operations.
Lumicent connects real-world asset condition with operational and business consequence, helping organizations continuously turn emerging exposure into prioritized action.
Our goal is to make better risk decisions possible at every level of the enterprise, from the engineer deciding what deserves investigation today to the executive deciding where capital and attention should move across an entire portfolio.
What we believe
- Human judgment becomes more valuable when attention is focused. — Lumicent is not designed to replace the people who understand industrial operations. It is designed to give them leverage. When experienced engineers, operators and risk professionals spend less time searching through information and more time examining the risks most likely to matter, scarce expertise reaches farther and better decisions happen faster.
- Physical risk should be understood across functions. — Asset risk does not belong exclusively to maintenance, operations, finance, EHS or executive leadership. Each sees a different part of the same exposure. The strongest decisions happen when those perspectives can operate from common evidence while retaining the expertise and accountability of each function.
- AI should earn its place in the operating model. — AI is valuable when it improves decisions in the real world. That requires strong physical data, context, traceability and clear boundaries around what machines determine and where human judgment remains essential. Industrial AI should ultimately be judged by the quality of the decisions and actions it enables.
How we operate
- Own It End-to-End — We take responsibility for outcomes, not simply our part of the process. Problems get solved rather than passed along, and ownership continues until the work is actually complete.
- Autonomy Is the Default — We hire capable people and give them room to act. Good judgment scales better than unnecessary layers of approval.
- Respectful Candor — Strong teams surface hard truths early. We challenge ideas directly, listen carefully and separate healthy disagreement from ego.
- Stay Close to the Customer’s Reality — Industrial credibility is earned in plants, mines, facilities and operating environments. We build around the constraints, priorities and consequences customers actually live with.
- Move Fast, Don’t Get Sloppy — Speed matters, but reliability matters more. We move with urgency without lowering the standard required for technology used in high-consequence environments.
- Build Something That Matters — We are here to materially change how physical risk is understood and acted on. That ambition shapes what we build, who we hire and the standard we hold ourselves to.
